Lisbon is a sunny city in Portugal situated on the northern banks of River Tagus (Rio Tejo). The best time to visit Lisbon is in spring and early autumn when the temperatures are not so high.
We flew to Humberto Delgado Airport or simply known as Lisbon Airport, quite a big international airport. The cheapest way to go from Lisbon Airport to the city center is with the metro. To use the metro system or any other public transportation in Lisbon you have to buy a Viva Viagem card. You can find more information on where to buy or how to use and how much does it cost here.
We bought our Viva cards on an automatic ticket machine and we were off to the metro station. We didn't wait long before metro came. The whole metro system was nice and clearly labeled, so we always knew where we are going. We rented a nice big room with a balcony right outside of the city center. After a short stop in our hotel, we were on our way to discover Lisbon. On our way to the Alfama neighborhood, we passed Marquis of Pombal Square.

As we were wandering through the small streets on our way to the Alfama neighborhood we passed many unique tiled houses. The decorative tiles are building material as well as decoration here in Lisbon.
We were hungry so we stopped in one of the small traditional restaurants we passed by.
Alfama neighborhood is small and hilly, the metro doesn't stop in this neighborhood but don't worry there are plenty of tram routes.
We chose to walk around Alfama to see if we can get a great view over the rest of Lisbon at Miradouro da Nossa Senhora do Monte.

We did and the clear sunny sky made the view even more beautiful the only downside of this location it is that it's quite crowded especially in the evenings for the sunset.
We walked around the neighborhood a little bit more and we stumbled upon a Miradouro de Santa Luzia this is a romantic terrace by the church of Santa Luzia.

We were quite tired from all the walking so we decided that it is best if we go to the nearest metro station Terreiro do Paço near Praça do Comércio. The metro stations in Lisbon are nice clean and every single station that we have been to was also covered in beautiful tiles.

Our hotel was in an old building, the room was clean and very big we even had our own balcony. There were a clean shared bathroom and a shared kitchen. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
