HOW TO PLAN A TRIP

This blog post is how we planing all our trips.

1 WHERE?

How we decide where? Actually very hard because we wanna go everywhere.

1.1 Looking for informations

Most of the times we use Pinterest and also Instagram to find an idea, if it isn't already in our heads.
First you have to decide what are you going to do there? Do you prefer cities or seaside or maybe hikings.
We are traveling on low budget, so usually we are looking for FREE things to do. We try to find where we have free entrance.
We use Pinterest, because there you can save pins that you like and make your own borders with different sections.

1.2 Save all your informations

On our Pinterest you will find a bunch of different stunning locations all over the world.
When we finally decide where we wanna go, than we use Google My Maps.

There we save all things that we wanna see it on chosen location. All sights, restaurants, pretty streets, rooftop bars, beaches,... everything. Here you have an example of map for Ljubljana

2 WHEN and HOW LONG?

We have usually only a month in our mind, exact dates we booked later. If you have no idea which part of the year is for you the best one than you can check let’s say weather on your destination. Time of daylight. Time of your visit dependence also of what you wanna do there. If you wanna swim in the lake it must be water enough warm and also air temperature is better higher.
How long are we gonna stay in the same place, depence of number of things that we must see. Than we add some more time for some other less important things. Don't forget add enough time for lunch break and don't miss that you can't walk around 16 hours per day, you also have to just stop in the park and rest a little bit.
When you are planning your trip and you wanna go in let's say museum there is possibility that there will be line. There you can easily lose 1 hour. So have that in your mind.

3 HOW?

If we are traveling by airplane we first looked prices of tickets. If we go somewhere close, we took bus or train.

3.1 AIRPLANE

For airplane tickets we are searching on Skyscanner. We checked a few closest airports and compare prices to our final destination with each others. In this price you also have to include price of transfer from your home to chosen airport.

Of course we prefer direct flight, but If this is not an option than we chose a route with as less changes as possible.

If we are traveling by plane our dates are almost never stay the same. We chek which day is cheaper and than we booked that flight.

When we finally chose our dates of flights than we go to official website of airline and there we buy our tickets.

We always chose the cheapest option of seat. Usually is in that price included only 1 carry-on bag. For us is this totally enough. When you make a final decision you also need to check how  much big will be your carry on bag, because almost every airline have different dimensions.
Check it out for your Airlines:
EasyJet
Ryanair
TAP Portugal
WIZZ Air
Iberia

Check in - we always did on line and then we print our boarding passes at home. In case when check in open very late (example 3 days before our flight) we make check in online and then we ask on the reception of our hotel if we could print it our boarding passes there. In case that is not an option we easily use google maps and find closest copier. We had that experience too.

3.2 TRAIN and BUS

If we travel somewhere closer we chek is better to go there by bus or train. We compare prices, how long we will diving and when. Is this a night or day drive. After booking our tickets, we also print them.

When we have booked our transfer, from our home until our final destination than we start looking for a hotel or hostel. We always booked our accommodation on booking.com
We are always looking for our own room. We can share a bathroom and toilet. Also very important thing is that metro station and bus station is very close to the hotel. This is very good, that you do not loosing time for walking to the metro.
We also check if they offer a breakfast. If there is already included in the price, than we of course eat it, if they maybe offer surcharge, than we never take it. We buy food in local supermarket or on market. Sometimes we eat breakfast in our room, but a lot of times we take food with us and than we eat it in park.

3.3 CAR

If you are traveling by car, than you haven't got those worries, but others. If you are planning traveling on highways, you have to verify how to pay it. Some countries has vignettes (Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland) in some countries you have to pay toll (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, France, Greece, ireland, Italy, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Serbia and Spain). In some countries highways are free, but you have to pay some of the bridges and tunnels.
Before you start your journey you also have to check the price of gasoline in country/countries where you are planning to travel through.

4 OTHER INFORMATIONS:

Check also some other factors, like what weather is usually in time of planned visit. If there is too cold or too hot you don’t really wanna walking outside whole day. Also check it out when is sunrise and sunset planed. This is good to know if you maybe planning to see some darker spots in the city, which is not recommend to visit in dark. This is also good to know if you wanna make an awesome photo let's say of sunset on the beach.
Before you make a final decision you also have to check do you need an ID, passport or maybe a visa for get there. Which currency they use and where is the best to change it in your home country or in your destination.
