HOW TO SAVE SOME MONEY ON A TRIP

Traveling could be very expensive. Below you have 12 advices how you can save some money on your next trip.

1.  Travel off season
Prices of accommodation and entrance fee are in high season always the highest. In time of high season is near the main attractions a lot of people and you can't see sights as you could. So we suggest you to travel off season and you will be definitely save some money and also time. Before you make a reservation you just check it out if there are some attractions maybe open in season only. Sometimes happens that some attractions are during winter closed for safety.

2. Book your airline tickets early
Probably you know that you are going on vacation several months before you are going on a vacation. So our advice is that you booked your airline tickets early even 5 months earlier. The price will be super low.

3. Hotel reservation
We are always use Booking to make a reservation of our accommodation. It is super easy to use. If you are gonna use our code you will get after your vacation 15% of the price back. Some of accommodations offer also free cancellation.

4. Seat reservation on the airplane
At low-cost airlines, you have the option to make a reservation for your seat on the plane. Of course for an extra charge. If you are traveling with a family member or a friend and you wanna seat together, just make sure that you make online check-in for all passengers at the time a first possible day and usually, you will be seating together. In case you are not together, you can ask passengers on a plane if they maybe want to change seats with you because you really really want to seat with your family member or friend.

5.  Free entrance
In some cities you will find museums where is entrance always FREE. In London for example you will find British museum, National Gallery, Museum of London and some others.
Some museums have free entrance for people under 18 years old, some forehead under 26 years old. On the entrance point is all you need to do show your ID card as proof how old are you. So if you are younger than 26 definitely check it out.
Example:
Museum Louvre in Paris (free entrance in you are living in EU and you are younger than 26).
A lot of times you can find different tickets pass for museums and galleries.
In some cities they have special days when entry is FREE.
For example:
Slovenia (all over the country) on 3rd of December is free entry to museums, galleries, theaters, you will find also free shows and free tours.
Barcelona - every 1st Sunday of the month a lot of museums are free.

6. City Tour
In bigger cities, you can join a free walking tour around the city center.
Guides work for voluntary tips only. Check it online where and when it starts and join the group. Some groups have booking required, some haven't.
Example for Ljubljana.
If you are more free spirit and you anyway don't like being in group, you can easily go on Google and there read something interesting about the statues, parks, important buildings or city in general.
If you have rather books, but you don't wanna buy them, you can borrow some of them in the library before your departure and read a little bit about the town that you are planning to visit.

7. Public transport
Before you go on your chosen location check online about all your possibilities how to move around the city. In some cities, you will find travel cards for 3, 5 days or for a whole week. Check it out all prices and compare them to each other and then pick the best one for you.
If you are planning to go on day trip out of the town, check if is this route included in your transport ticket.
For example: When we were in Lisbon we wanna go to day trip to Cascais. We buy a 1 day (24h) ticket, Carris/Metro/CP, which is valid for unlimited journeys on Carris, Metro and CP (Sintra, Cascais, Azambuja and Sado lines), during 24 hours following the first validation.
Also in Paris was in the price of weekly ticket included route until Airport CDG, Disneyland Paris, Château de Versailles and ORLY Airport.

8. Pack all in one backpack only
This point count if you are traveling by airplane. On train or bus usually you haven't got such restrictions as on the airplane.
If you are traveling with low budget you usually travel with low-cost airlines. Many times you have to pay for your second bag, so you just pack all you need in one backpack and that is it. Check out our previous post: What backpackers pack.

9. Snacks and food during the day
Buy snacks, fruit and small meals during the day in a supermarket. It is cheaper than going into the restaurant for every meal or going to a bar when you are thirsty. Don't forget your travel cutlery. Go to supermarket even before you are going to an airport, food is super expensive there. Safe some food also for eating on a plane. Prices on the planes are pretty high.

10. Exactly check a menu
In some places, you will find for example a whole lunch for 10 EUR. If you will pick separately starter, main dish and salat the price will be much higher.

11. Water
Take with you your water bottle. If in that country you can drink tap water fill your bottle in the hotel room. You can also fill it later in public taps. When you are going at the airport, empty your bottle before security point and fill it again on toilet after security control. Air on the place is many times very dry and make you thirsty. If you are flying with low-cost airline there you must pay every drink.

12. Souvenirs
Everywhere sale a lot of different souvenirs. Also, we buy them, as a memory to our holidays.
We always, but really always in every town buy a postcard. Why? It is very cheap and small souvenir. We write a date on it, when we visit that town and signature it in memory who was on that trip.
What about souvenirs for friends and family?
Well, you really don't need to spending money for a souvenir, that will end somewhere on attic. You can easily send them a nice photo of you enjoying in your holidays. Or if you a bit more creative, you can make them a nice collage of a few photos and add a cute caption.
